The Elite Fantasy 2019 Award Winners

Updated: Feb 7

With the Super Bowl now concluded so has the 2019 fantasy season. We here at The Elite Fantasy have convened and have voted on whom we deem the most valuable fantasy assets from the 2019 season. So without further a do let's see who won some awards.

Fantasy MVP / RB of the Year

Christian McCaffrey

Christian McCaffrey was by far the most valuable player in the fantasy game in 2019. He was insane carrying many teams to a league title. With McCaffrey you not only had a RB1 but also a WR1. He was a key fixture in the passing attack for a Carolina team who didn’t have their starting quarterback most the season. The workload was there and the results that followed equated to a MVP performance. CMC also was our 2019 fantasy running back of the year.

Fantasy QB of the Year

Lamar Jackson

No surprise here as Lamar Jackson earns this award for 2019. Lamar Jackson seemingly came out of nowhere this season blowing away the competition at the position. With Jackson you basically had an Elite RB1 on your hands as well, as Jackson set the single season rushing yards by the position previously held by Mike Vick. Jackson didn’t only get it done with his legs, as he led all at the position with his 36 passing touchdowns. Jackson also finished up as the runner up for our Fantasy MVP of 2019.

Fantasy WR of the Year

Michael Thomas

Michael Thomas dominated the position in 2019 on his way to earning the top honor for the position. Thomas set the single season record for receptions passing Marvin Harrison during this historic campaign. Thomas was his quarterback’s best friend this season, both of them, proving his twitter handle to be true, you can’t guard Mike.

Fantasy TE of the Year

Travis Kelce

Much like the previous seasons the Super Bowl 54 Champion tight end earns this top honor. Kelce led all at the position in receiving yards. Despite being without his quarterback for two games Kelce was still able to hold off the other Elite options at the position, proving once again he is the best tight in the fantasy game.

Sleeper of the Year

Austin Ekeler

We had a couple nice surprises this fantasy season in terms of players outperforming their ADP, but Austin Ekeler is our choice for sleeper of the year. Austin Ekeler finished the season as a top 5 fantasy back in PPR leagues. Ekeler was a monster in the LA passing attack which led to his high finish in fantasy leagues in 2019. Melvin Gordon missing the majority of the season also helped Ekeler earn this honor for 2019.

Waiver Wire Add of the Year

Darren Waller

Much like the sleeper of the year above we had a number of options we could have chosen for this award, but decided to go with a player at a position that is historically tough for fantasy purposes. This year’s Waiver Wire add of the year is Las Vegas tight end Darren Waller. Waller was Derek Carr’s number one target on his way to racking up over 1,000 yards receiving. He was a bright spot on the field for the Raiders and many fantasy teams throughout 2019.

Fantasy Rookie of the Year

Josh Jacobs

Many would have awarded this to Kyler Murray but we are awarding this to Josh Jacobs. Jacobs was a beast in 2019 battling through injuries on his way to a 1,000 yard season. Jacobs led all backs according to PFF in elusiveness, putting up the second highest number ever just behind Alvin Kamara from a previous season. Jacobs has a bright future in this league and we here at Elite are certainly a fan.

Fantasy Bust of the Year

David Johnson

The final award we are handing out is one you do not want to win. This season there was only one player who deserves this award and that is David Johnson. Johnson was receiving all kinds of hype coming into the season and his ADP reflected that as he was a top 6 back being taken. A high powered offense that likes passing to backs also contributed to the hype. However, it only took a few weeks into the season to see that Johnson was going to severely crush your hopes and dreams. Johnson actually ended the season in most leagues on the waiver wire, and if he didn’t he should have been.
